Review: AWAKENING by Tiera Rice

awakening

Golden stars rating template isolated on white background.

It has a very interesting story line, with an original plot. The story is told on two points of view of the same person   in different  ages…. Sounds confusing!?? Well just a little and only in the beginning. So let’s start there.

We have two heroines, different dates, 1480 and today. The story is told alternating dates and heroines.

In 1480 we have a princes vampyre aware of who she is and of her powers, as her place in the world, on the other hand we have a present day we have a just turned 19 year old girl just awakening  into who she really is.

The story really is interesting, but the dynamics on the present day did nothing for me. While in 1480 the princess Anastasia is a strong willed fun woman with a purpose, her story is clear and interesting, with Nadia on the present day it’s just the narrative of her day and what she did.

While Anastasia is constantly educated to fully become who she is supposed to be, she lives a full life. And Nadia, sadly only knows she comes from a line of witches. So while she is going through her awakening, she knows nothing, and is reluctant to ask her mother. So we have a blundering naive girl thinking she is going crazy, and suddenly finding out she can fight, and has superhuman strength oh and by the way she also drinks blood.

Anastasia knows perfectly well who her enemies are, well… ok, not perfectly because we do get a little surprise almost at the end, but Nadia suddenly is accossed by who now who, and finds herself having visions, that look a lot like memories instead of visions.

So as you can see, the story is really interesting, I will definitely read the second book, because it part of a series, This first book is where all the bases are set, and the pieces start to move. So I’m very interested in reading the next book ant to see where all is going to end.

Shopping for a CEO’s Wife
Julia Kent
(Shopping for a Billionaire, #12)
Publication date: April 25th 2017
Genres: Adult, Romance

Snowbound. Sounds so romantic, with visions of cuddling before a roaring fire, hot chocolate spiked with brandy, and a secret elopement.

Wait. What?

My fiancé’s father won’t stop trying to turn our pending wedding into a three-ring media circus so he can get free publicity for his family’s Fortune 500 company. My mother has decided she’s done with All Things Wedding and asks her teacup Chihuahua for mother-of-the-bride advice.

They’ve all gone certifiably mad.

Then the stress from the wedding puts my mother in the hospital, I scream at my future father-in-law in front of a camera crew and the video goes viral, and the romantic wedding that started with Andrew’s grand Pride and Prejudice proposal looks less like Jane Austen and more like Dostoyevsky.

So what do you do when you’re a fixer and you can’t fix something?

You give up on it.

Not on Andrew, silly.

The wedding.

Shopping for a CEO’s Wife is the 12th book in Julia Kent’s New York Times bestselling Shopping series. As Shannon and Declan enjoy their newlywed bliss, Andrew’s father wants to exploit Amanda and Andrew’s nuptials, much to Amanda’s chagrin. Can she learn to stand up to her future father-in-law and fight for what’s right? But the real question is: will Spritzy the teacup Chihuahua end up being a flower girl?

Review: 10 club, by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

10-club

4-5-stars

Wooooooow this book gave me whiplash!!!

We have been following  the story of Mia and King for a while now,  so as you can see this is not a stand alone book.  And you definitely need to read the other books in this series to understand all of what happens in this grand finale.

This series has been a roller coaster,  but this book especially is  angst topped with more anguish and  a little bit of anger in there.

Mia being a seer travels back in time to where King was still human,  where he was still king of his people to try and save Teddy,  her children a and herself.  The problem is that in this time,  he doesn’t know her,  doesn’t even like her.  She has to convince him of her story,  which sounds more and more crazy by the minute,  and in the midst of all this she still has to mount him,  mount the life the had and deal with a 3 month old child and a new pregnancy.

But this time around Mia has grown a set of iron balls,  a steel back that not even King can break.

But will she ever get her happily ever after,  will she be able to defeat 10 club,  o will she be hunted for all time,  and still lose the love of her life?

The only glitch I have with this book is the end…  lol.

BIG SPOILER AHEAD!!!!!  If you do not want to know any more skip ahead….

I have very mixed feelings and not all of them good,  about the ending..  We all understand  that King had to go through a lot to become the man Mia loved,  and he had a dark side, if I may say it,  a manageable dark side,  but when all is done,  and Mia fins herself in her time with King as her husband I felt extremely happy only to find out that King is keeping a side if himself,  a very big and important part,  a secret from Mia.  And above all he still keeps Hague with him…  I felt so betrayed for Mia.  I could not enjoy their happily ever after,  because it was a mirage..

OTHER THAN THAT,  I love the way Mimi’s mind works…  so much twists and turns,  and totally unrealistic things that she can weave and make it sound possible!

I know I’m I’m a little biased because she is one of my favorite  authors, but I seriously love her books.
So go…. Go and buy the book!!!

EXCERPT:

Minerva (2016)

“The accident is a lie.”

“What do you mean? You keep saying that.”

The face staring back at her was the same one she remembered from all those years ago. Kind, caring, patient. But older now. The playful smile the boy had once worn had vanished behind a mask she couldn’t seem to penetrate now that he was a man. She hadn’t seen him for years, but this was how she’d always imagined he’d look all grown up: the soft brown eyes, the pale complexion just brushed by a touch of sunshine, the auburn hair unkempt and uncut, cascading down across his left eye. She’d always stared at that; it distracted her. And he’d always noticed, brushing it back the moment she became aware of it.

His brow lowered slightly, as if to say, “You’re staring.” But he said nothing. Even the words he did speak seemed silent to her somehow, as if she were in a dream …

She moaned in her sleep and tried to turn her body, but the vice grip held her, the paralysis that had been with her since the accident.

In her dream, concern flitted across his face, apparent even in the dim glow of the candle that burned beside her bed. Its light had always comforted her, and at times, she’d stared into the flame as it flickered for moments on end, imagining she was a part of it. The thought of that soothed her, one of the few things in this world that did.

“Stay with me,” he said, his tone resolute.

“I can’t move,” she protested.

“Yes, you can. All you have to do is remember how you felt before all this. Before the accident and the lies it’s telling you.”

“You’re the liar,” she whispered, her voice whispered venom.

He looked hurt now, and pulled away from her, that resolve appearing to evaporate at the sound of her voice. In the same moment, he seemed farther away, the reflected candlelight that had danced in his eyes a few moments earlier now a fading glow that illumined little more than his forehead and the tip of his nose.

“I’m telling you the truth,” he said, but she could barely hear him. A part of her wanted to believe what he was saying. Not a part – all of her. But in the instant she acknowledged that desire, she was aware it could not be.

She tried to turn her body again.

Nothing.

Her jaw clenched tight, and she began to tremble with the effort.

“Not that way,” he said.

“Then … how!” Her voice was louder than she intended, and he pulled away further into the shadows.

“Wait,” she said, softening her tone. “Don’t go. You have to tell me … about the accident.”

“It’s not important now,” he said, moving forward slightly again, into the candlelight.

“Not important? Then how do you explain this?” She nearly spat the words at him, and he averted his eyes.

“See?” she said. “You can’t even bear to look at me. If the accident didn’t happen, how did I get like this?

He sat up straighter and held her gaze again, his eyes locking on hers so that, this time, it was she who wished to glance away. But he held her there by force of will. “Min, you’re beautiful.”

No one ever called her that but him.
